Where did you spend Thanksgiving? Was it around a dining room table with family? Maybe on TV trays with friends? Thomas Rhett and his family went a completely different route for their holiday dinner. They spent it at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where the young country star performed during the halftime show of the big Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys game.
Obviously, it was a big deal for T-Rhett to land this coveted performance slot, and he was excited about the honor. But, it’s arguable if he was the most excited member of the Akins family about being in Dallas for Thanksgiving.
And it had nothing to do with Dallas, Thanksgiving, turkey, football or even performing during halftime. For Thomas and Lauren’s 2-year-old daughter, Willa Gray, it was all about the cheerleaders.
Dressed in the kiddo’s version of the iconic cheerleading uniform, Willa was enchanted by the beautiful and energetic young women who took time to visit with her and her baby sister, Ada James, who was a bit distracted by all of the activity. But come on, y’all. Babying is hard.
Now, this game is the official kick-off of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, and Thomas Rhett’s performance was part of that tradition, so with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders dancing on the skirt of the stage, T-Rhett ripped through a high-octane set that included “Craving You” (sans Maren Morris), “T-Shirt” and “Unforgettable.
Although Thomas looked as cool and confident under those bright stadium lights, the day before the game, he looked a little more uncertain of the hefty role he had taken on.
He did great, though. And the DCC had nothing on his own personal cheerleading squad.
