Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s “The Rest of Our Life,” which was co-written by Ed Sheeran, is now in a huge copyright lawsuit that was filed in New York on Wednesday. According to documents that were filed, Australian songwriters Sean Carey and Beau Golden claim the track is “blatant copying” of their 2014 song “When I Found You”–which was recorded by Jasmine Rae.
“The copying is, in many instances, verbatim, note-for-note copying of original elements of the song, and is obvious to the ordinary observer,” states the complaint shared by The Hollywood Reporter. Nashville-based attorney Richard Busch, who successfully won a trial for the family of Marvin Gaye in the “Blurred Lines” lawsuit, is representing plaintiffs Carey and Golden. They are seeking injunctive relief and at least $5 million in actual damages plus profits, a running royalty and an award of attorney’s fees and costs.
Here are both songs- Tim and Faith’s The Rest of Our Life and Jasmine Rae’s When I Found You. What do you think?
